Forty-three patients of evil oncologist Farid Fata, who misdiagnosed them with cancer, or gave them unnecessary treatments, will share in an $8-million settlement entered Wednesday in lawsuits they filed against Dr. Fata and three hospitals, Jennifer Dixon of the Detroit Free Press reports.
The patients are among hundreds who were victims of the doctor, now serving 45 years in prison for his misdeeds with patients and defrauding Medicare.
The Freep reports:
Brian McKeen announced the settlement Wednesday against Fata, as well as Crittenton Hospital, McLaren Medial Center and Trinity Health. The malpractice victims represent just a fraction of Fata's victims, who number at least 550, but many didn't file malpractice claims; some were unable to sue due to the statute of limitations.
The settlement involves Fata and several health care providers. The money will be distributed by an arbitrator in September-October.
