Mayoral candidate Mike Duggan has released his plan for redeveloping Detroit's residential districts, titled "Every Neighborhood Has a Future," which has been the campaign's slogan for several months.
He plans to present the plan in each of the city's seven city council districts; the first presentation is Monday night at Trinity Presbyterian Church, 4849 W. Outer Drive, north of W. 7 Mile Road.
Duggan set out the main ingredients of the plan in a meeting Aug. 28. His main concept is a new Department of Neighborhoods, which he said he would establish to replace the 14 agencies that residents and business owners now have to deal with for such issues as vacant properties, dangerous buildings, demolition and squatters.
Noting that those agencies are mainly located downtown, Duggan said he would decentralize the Department of Neighborhoods into the seven new city council districts to make them more accessible.
“You’re going to have one place in your neighborhood to go,” Duggan said.
