Back in January, newly minted Mayor Mike Duggan asked citizens to give him six months to show that he could make a difference in the city of Detroit.

Now, six months later he's touting his accomplishments.

Matt Helms of the Detroit Free Press writes that Duggan on Monday night at a community meeting at city hall said the city is making serious progress on blight and pledged to mow and remove debris from as many as 100,000 vacant lots for the first time since 2010.

Duggan also said there's a stepped up effort to raze buildings, the Freep reports. Duggan said the city expects to tear down 300 homes a week by September, up from a maximum of 50 in 2013.

“We are going to roll through this city like no one has ever seen,” Duggan said, according to the Freep.

Duggan also talked about his ambitious plan to re-light all the neighborhoods by next year with LED lights; the improved bus service; the greater number of parks operating this year and a plan to seize homes where drugs are being sold.  -- Allan Lengel
