Talk about being an easy target at Target. Two women are charged with pilfering from a suburban Detrroit branch of the chain while more than a dozen uniformed police officers were in nearby aisles.

This week's crime occurred during a Shop with a Cop benefit for children at Target in Bloomfield Hills, Ann Zaniewski writes in the Detroit Free Press. The headline describes an "ill-timed theft."

"The police officers were only about 20 feet away when they tried to walk out of the store," Sgt. Michael Mondeau of Sylvan Lake tells the paper. He organized the pick-your-gifts event for 22 youngsters, with participation from his force and police in Keego Harbor, Orchard Lake and Bloomfield Township.

A Facebook post by the Keego Harbor Police Department with this photo thanks supporters and adds:

On a side note, there must have been a special episode of "Dumb Criminal Minds" being filmed live as [two people] tried to shoplift a bunch of electronics right in front of about 10 cops. They didn't get far.

Keiana Wilson, 40, of Burton and Dana Johnson, 18 of Flint face retail fraud charges, according to the Freep. They're accused of leaving the Telegraph Road store last Wednesday evening with two Apple watches, two iPads and a Nintendo gaming system.

"Don't take what is not yours," a member of Keego Harbor's force says in the social media post. "It's a simple rule that everyone should abide by and the world would be a better place."
