Richard "White Boy Rick" Wershe Jr. will have to wait another year and a half to get out of prison after being denied clemency by a Florida judge.
Wershe is currently serving out a 22-month sentence in Florida on a racketeering and conspiracy charge. He was released from prison in Michigan in 2017.
WDIV reports Wershe's request for clemency was denied in a letter sent to his lawyer in late March, meaning his original Oct. 26, 2020 release date still stands.
Wershe — Michigan's longest-serving non-violent juvenile lifer — was arrested at age 17 and served about 30 years before being paroled. But after his release, he was shipped down to Florida to serve out a sentence for being part of a car theft ring while in prison there around 2006.
He got involved in the car ring while he was incarcerated in Florida prison as part of the witness protection program after he helped the Detroit FBI bust crooked Detroit and suburban cops and Mayor Coleman A. Young's common-law brother-in-law in a drug and money laundering sting.
