Let's face it, the McNamara Terminal at Metro Airport -- the main one -- has the best food -- at least compared to the stepchild terminal, the North Terminal, known as the "other" one.
But things are looking up for the North Terminal.
Victoria Trudeau of Eater Detroit reports that there will be some very welcoming caloric additions there including:
Bigalora Wood Fired Cucina, Plum Market with Zingerman's Deli, Corridor Sausage Company, Grobbel's Gourmet Deli, Crave Robata Grill and Bar, Papa Joe's Gourmet Market, Mezza Mediterranean Grille, Palazzolo's Artisan Gelato and Sorbetto, and a "gate holdroom dining experience themed on Detroit's historic Eastern Market" along with some national chains.
The additions should be completed by Fall 2015.
Trudeau also provides a little guide to the offerings in the McNamara Terminal.
Here's a sampling:
Sora Japanese Cuisine & Sushi Bar: A Michigan airport terminal is probably one of the last places someone would normally grab sushi, but Sora has a great reputation for serving good sit down sushi and a mean tempura to boot. It's the kind of place that almost makes travelers wish for a longer layover. [Gate A35]
Vino Volo Wine Room: Sure, a glass of wine is a nice way to unwind before getting on the plane, but why have one glass when a flight with multiple wines is an option? That's just one of the joys of Vino Volo, and the food is the second, as it's way more interesting than your standard "American" fare. Think ingredients like prosciutto, brie, truffle oil, salmon, and smoked Gouda. See? Way better. [Gate A45]
