Hollywood is planning to make another Beverly Hills Cop movie for the same reasons they made another Indiana Jones movie and another Rocky sequel and reset comic book superhero franchises every few years. Mainstream Hollywood is just out of good ideas.

But will another Beverly Hills Cop movie, featuring plays-by-his-own-rules Detroit Police Detective Axel Foley, mean they'll be filming in Detroit?

Perhaps.

Detroit Free Press: The revived “Beverly Hills Cop” will return Murphy’s character, Detroit cop Axel Foley, to his Motor City roots, according to Deadline Hollywood.

Perhaps not.

But will the movie actually be filmed in Detroit? Paramount Pictures has no comment at this time, a studio rep told the Free Press last week.

The Michigan Film Office is equally mum. “We are currently having conversations with a number of projects interested in coming to Michigan. As is always the case, we will make an announcement if and when projects are approved for incentives,” said MFO spokeswoman Michelle Grinnell on Monday.

The first Beverly Hills Cop movie was a classic. The second one was solid entertainment. The third one, well, the third one is where Gil Hill gets shot. The rest was kind of forgettable. The only way Beverly Hills Cop IV will be good is if Judge Reinhold's character has been, in the 20 years since the last film, elected judge and there is a hilarious courtroom scene between him and Axel.
