State Rep. Brian Banks is back in the news for familiar reason, which M.L. Elrick gives at Fox 2.
Banks went to the Thrifty Scot Supermarket last November and passed a bad check. Five days later, he went to the same store and passed another bad check. . . .
The store's owner said he tried for months to get Banks to pay up, but it wasn't until he called the cops that Banks tried to make good on the checks, sending in someone else to drop off the loot.
Police investigated, then asked Wayne County Prosecutor Kym Worthy to charge Banks with a felony.
Elrick, who spoke briefly with the Democratic lawmaker from Harper Woods without getting a comment, adds:
The new Banks looks a lot like the old Banks. He has multiple felony convictions and a history of writing bad checks and credit card fraud. He has been evicted from half a dozen homes and was forced to leave one home just last month.
Separately, in a public post Thursday morning on Facebook, the investigative reporter shares background about his call seeking comment:
He said we can't meet until we work out some trust issues. I told him I'm not sure what they could be, since I've always kept my word, saying and doing everything I've ever told him I was going to do. . . . I told him I'd be happy to meet whenever and wherever he'd like.
I'll let you know how things work out.
