M.L. Elrick, Fox 2Let's go the videotape, says M.L. Elrick of Fox 2 Detroit, who airs footage of Kwame Kilpatrick cashing a $2,000 wire transfer from a Chicago clergyman.

Kilpatrick was caught on a Wal-Mart security camera in Chesterfield Township last December, cashing a $2,000 wire transfer from Pastor Corey Brooks, a prodigious fundraiser. . . .He failed to report the gift, a possible probation violation. . . .

State corrections officials confirmed that Kilpatrick pocketed at least $800 of the money he received and wired about $1,100 to Texas, where his family lives.

Kilpatrick called the matter trivial, according to the Detroit News.

"The people that need to deal with it will," Kilpatrick said after leaving the federal courthouse Tuesday, according to a Detroit News article by Robert Snell and Mike Wilkinson. "I believe I shouldn't comment on something so trivial."

Elrick, who relayed a tip about the money to probation officials, notes that the ex-mayor owes Detroit's treasury hundreds of thousands of dollars in court-ordered restitution.

Russ Marlan from the Michigan Department of Corrections says corrections officials will interview Kilpatrick about the money, his failure to report it and make a recommendation to the parole board.
