Ex-Lt. William Rice
Ex-Detroit Police homicide Lt. William Rice , who was a big-time homicide cop in the day, is headed to prison.
A Wayne County judge sentenced him Thursday to 2-20 years years in prison for perjury and corruption charges, WDIV reports.
The perjury stemmed from a murder case involving Davontae Sanford.
Sanford pleaded guilty in a quadruple murder that occurred in 2007. He was 14 at the time of the murder.
Afterwards, Sanford wanted to withdraw his plea, so the state Court of Appeals remanded the case back to the lower court.
It was then, during an evidentiary hearing, that Rice offered false testimony on behalf of Sanford as a defense alibi witness. He said he was with Sanford at the time of the murders.
Rice and Cheryl Sanford, Davontae Sanford's aunt, were eventually charged with conducting a criminal enterprise, WDIV reported. They stole Section 8 housing money meant to help those in need.
Cheryl Sanford pleaded guilty to one count of continuing criminal enterprise and one count of false pretenses. She has been sentenced to one year in prison, WDIV reports.
