It seems a sure bet that Ed Garcia's law enforcement career is done, though the fotrmer cop is just 46. Niraj Warikoo tells why in the Free Press.
The Wayne County Prosecutor’s Office is investigating whether a veteran Dearborn Heights police officer tried to pressure prosecutors to help a friend involved in a felony drug case.
Garcia retired last month from the Dearborn Heights Police Department, where he had served since 1991. He was placed on administrative leave in March before leaving the department April 23, according to city officials.
The investigation marks the second time questions have been raised about Garcia’s conduct. In 2009, he was fired amid an investigation into whether he tried to help a different friend accused of abusing his 5-year-old son. Garcia filed a grievance, an arbitrator later ruled in Garcia’s favor.
