A retired Detroit cop becomes the fourth person charged in an ongoing FBI towing investigation involving Detroit's city hall and police department.

Federal authorities on Thursday filed a criminal information charging retired Detroit Police officer Alonzo Jones, 55, of Detroit with taking $3,200 in bribes from an FBI informant working in the towing industry and an undercover agent. A criminal information normally indicates a guilty plea is forthcoming.

Jones was responsible for overseeing and running the Detroit Police Vehicle Auction division for the department and city.

Authorities allege that he took bribes from July 2019 to 2021 in exchange for providing falsified bills of sale for seized and abandoned vehicles. The documents let him bypass the required public auction of the vehicles and transfer ownership to the undercover informant and federal agent, according to the court filing.

Others charged in the probe are two former Detroit cops and ex-Councilman Andre Spivey, who awaits sentencing after his guilty plea.
