Ex-Lions quarterback Erik Kramer is alive after an apparent suicide attempt Tuesday night in Los Angeles County, NBC News reports.
Andrew Blankstein and Phil Helsel of NBC News report that Kramer, 50, apparently shot himself at a motel in Calabasas, Calif. Los Angeles County sheriff's deputies were making a welfare check at the motel around 8 p.m. when they found Kramer with gunshot wounds, that were described as not life-threatening, NBC reports, citing an unnamed source.
His ex-wife, Marshawn Kramer, told NBC News Wednesday night that it was a suicide attempt. She said Kramer suffered years of depression that she believes was the result of his time in the NFL. He played for several teams in the NFL including the Lions, from 1991-93.
"He is a very amazing man, a beautiful soul, but he has suffered depression since he was with the Bears," Marshawn Kramer said in a telephone interview with NBC. "I can promise you he is not the same man I married."
