Ex-Michigan State basketball star Keith Appling was arrested Monday morning without incident in Chelsea in connection with the Saturday murder on Detroit's west side, WDIV reports
Appling is a suspect in the fatal shooting around 7:10 p.m. in the 13200 block of Whitcomb Road, near Greenfield and Schoolcraft. The victim, who was a relative through marriage, was shot multiple times, according WDIV.
Authorities allege that Appling got into an argument with a 66-year-old man, which turned violent. The dispute reportedly may have been over a gun, which has been recovered by police.
Since college, Appling has been in and out of NBA summer and G leagues as an undrafted free agent and developed a criminal record. He went to jail in 2017 for carrying a concealed weapon and resisting a police officer and last year was charged with delivery or manufacture of heroin. In between the charges, he played for leagues in Mexico and the Dominican Republic.
