While investigators examined how Nassar got away with sexually assaulting hundreds of individuals on and off MSU's campus, Klages allegedly lied to Michigan State Police detectives by saying she had not been told prior to 2016 of Nassar’s sexual misconduct, a statement says Thursday. Witnesses say they reported Nassar’s sexual abuse to Klages more than 20 years ago.
One charge, a felony, carries a maximum four-year prison term and a $5,000 fine. The other, a misdemeanor, is punishable by imprisonment of up to two years and a $5,000 fine.
The Michigan Attorney General's Office says it continues looking into MSU’s handling of Nassar’s sexual misconduct. More than 500 people have been interviewed, including survivors, MSU faculty and staff and coaches.
