Dr. Larry Nassar, the former Michigan State University physician, still faces a host of charges that he sexually assaulted gymnasts when he was team physician for USA Gymnastics.
In the meantime, he plans on pleading guilty to federal child pornography charges, according to a plea agreement obtained by The Detroit News. Those documents are expected to be filed in court next week.
Authorities charged that Nassar downloaded numerous pornographic images of children and videos in 2004 and had possession of hard drives with thousands of images, but when he became aware law enforcement was investigating him in September, he paid a store $49 to wipe his computer and threw several hard drives in a trash can, according to the court document, Kim Kozlowski reports.
Investigators recovered drives and did a forensics analysis to detect what Nassar had tried to hide.
In a separate case, an Ingham County judge last month ordered Nassar to stand trial on charges of sexually assaulting six young gymnasts who alleged that he molested them while they were seeking treatment for various injuries.
