Ex-Michigan State University basketball star Mateen Cleaves has been charged with sexually assaulting a woman in a Genesee County hotel room after a charity golfing outing last Sept. 15, authorities announced Tuesday.

Cleaves, 39, of Grand Blanc, is charged with taking a 24-year-old  Mount Morris woman to a motel in the 2400 block of West Grand Blanc in Mundy Township in Genesee County around 1 a.m., holding her against her will and sexually assaulting her, the Wayne County Prosecutor's Office said in a press release.

The woman was able to escape from the room and received assistance from a woman in a nearby room, the Wayne County Prosecutor's Office said.

The case is under the jurisdiction of the Genesee County Prosecutor's Office, which asked that Wayne County handle the case to avoid a possible conflict of interest with a potential witness in the case..

Wayne County Assistant Prosecutor Lisa Lindsey will prosecute the case in Genesee County.

Cleaves lists on his Facebook page that he's a sports analyst at SiriusXM Radio and Sports Analyst at CBS College Sports Network.

He previously worked for FOX Sports Detroit.
