Two men, including former NFL player Robert Eddins, were found shot to death Tuesday in the basement of Eddin's home on Pierson, just south of 8 Mile Road in northwest Detroit.

Authorities tell Fox 2's Dave Spencer that the gas stove was left on to give investigators the impression that whoever killed the men tried to cover up their tracks by trying to blow up the house. There were no signs of forced entry, which suggests the victims may have known the killer or killers.

Eddin's father, who came to check on his son, discovered the bodies on Tuesday around 6 p.m.

The two men were out having a good time Monday night and may have been followed home and robbed, then killed, reports WXYZ's Aaron Baskerville.

Eddins, 28,  played in the NFL for a year for the Buffalo Bills in 2011. Before that he played for Ball State University and Detroit Crockett High School. In 2014, he joined the Saskatchewan Roughriders in Canada during the 2014 CFL preseason, but injured himself in training camp and was cut.

"He played pro football. We are all proud of him," Bridget Eddins, his mother, told Fox 2. "But it is what it is. (We) don't know what happened."

The second victim was identified as Ricky McFarland, 31.

Police tell Fox 2 that one room appeared to messed up as if someone was looking for something.
