A storm that's brought up to 9 inches of snow to parts of Michigan's northern Lower Peninsula is creating hazardous driving conditions and prompting hundreds of school closings in Wayne, Macomb, Oakland, Genesee, Monroe, St. Clair, Livingston, Sanilac and Washtenaw counties.
It was this problem that caused the outage.
The Detroit Public Schools district also said it canceled classes.
Between 3 and 5 inches of snow fell around Oakland and Macomb counties overnight with 1 to 2 inches of accumulation in Wayne and Washtenaw counties by 6 a.m. today, National Weather Service meteorologist Steve Considine said this morning.
