The anguish and legal problems aren't over for Sandra and Fred Layne, whose 17-year-old grandson Jonathan Hoffman was fatally shot at their West Bloomfield condo -- a murder that put her behind bars for 20 to 40 years.

Sandra Layne is serving 20 to 40 years for second-degree murder in her grandson's death.

They're now being sued by the teen's father and estate, L.L. Brasier reports in the Free Press.

The suit, filed in Oakland County Circuit Court, names Sandra Layne, and her husband, Fred Layne, 86, a retired engineer.

Her defense attorney, Jerome Sabbota, tells Brasier the claim for at least $1 million in wrongful death damages is disgusting and unsurprising.

“It was clear from the testimony that this was a very dysfunctional family,” he said.

Sandra Layne, a retired teacher, shot her grandson six times in May 2012.
