Noted clothing designer and Detroit native Tracy Reese, whose designs have been worn by first lady Michelle Obama, has a pop-up boutique this month in Midtown.

Rachel Premack of Crain's Detroit Business reports that the pop-up is in the store, Detroit is the New Black, 52 E. Forest,  one of the newest city pride T-shirt shops.

Reese is scheduled to appear 3-4 p.m. Saturday to meet shoppers.

Crain's reports that the pop-up is expected to remain open through October. 

Reese, a graduate of Cass Tech, headed for Manhattan in 1982 to attend Parsons School of Design. She received an accelerated degree in 1984, according to her website.

After graduating, she apprenticed under designer Martine Sitbon while working for the small contemporary firm, Arlequin. Reese has also worked at the some top fashion houses. At Perry Ellis, she was the women’s portfolio design director, the website says.

In 1996, Reese launched her collection to rave reviews, the site says.
