A couple years ago signs went up in a Woodward storefront near Wayne State claiming the California-chain Fatburger was "coming soon." Things are always "coming soon" in Detroit. After a while, you just accept some of those things aren't actually going to arrive. Like Fatburger.
Turn out, that cynicism was misplaced. However delayed, Fatburger will actually open in Detroit later this month.
Eater Detroit: An Eater Detroit source wandered by the Studio One building earlier today and noticed an open door and a parked car with the space's developer inside conveniently located nearby. The space, which has had signs advertising the coming burger onslaught for years, is aiming for a July 29 opening, according to Great Lakes Fast Food general manager Gary Shelton, the local Fatburger franchisee.
Fatburger, if you've never had the pleasure, makes delicious cooked-to-order burgers. As the name suggests, they are sizable. And, on nights the Lakers beat the Supersonics and everything worked out, there's just nothing like getting a Fatburger around 2:00 AM.
If the Detroit location actually opens as promised on July 29, truly, it will be a good day.
