Before the Coleman A. Young Municipal Building downtown shut for the holiday weekend, FBI agents executed a search warrant at the Detroit Building, Safety and Engineering Department. Andrea Isom reports at Fox 2 News.
Detroit FBI spokesman Simon Shaykhat told Deadline Detroit that the FBI executed a search warrant as part of an ongoing investigation.
Spokesman for the mayor and emergency manager confirmed that they were informed of the search, Isom adds.
The state warrant was executed by the feds, which could mean it is a collaboration, a joint task force out to fight corruption.
The warrant lists no names, only nine properties that crisscross Detroit, including a towing and transportation yard on Freeland, Gerry's Garage and Auto Detailing on Mack, E&B Brewery Lofts near Eastern Market and a lot where a house used to stand on Mettetal.
Isom cites speculation that the inquiry could involve financial improprieties by building code enforcement and demolition inspectors.
