Pilots using Detroit City Airport might have do so so without air traffic controllers because of federal budget cuts.
It's among six small Michigan airports that could lose its Federal Aviation Administration staff, Bill Shea reports in Crain's Detroit Business.
The Federal Aviation Administration said Friday it may have to halt air-traffic-control service, either completely or overnight, at hundreds of small airports. Air-traffic controllers would be furloughed.
Ann Arbor, Battle Creek, Marquette, Muskegon and Jackson also are on the list. . . . Overnight air-traffic control could be cut at Willow Run Airport in Ypsilanti and at Lansing's airport.
Traffic at the east-side Detroit airport, known officially as Coleman A. Young Municipal Airport, consists mainly of private aircraft and a few corporate planes.
