Though it's no longer front and center in the news these days, the investigation into the Flint water crisis continues.

On Thursday, Andy Arena, the former head of the Detroit FBI, who is the lead investigator in the case, said that he's now looking into allegations that "financial fraud" and "greed" may have been driving factors in the decision to switch water sources for Flint, reports The Detroit News.

Arena, who is leading the probe on behalf of Attorney Gen. Bill Schuette,  made the remarks before the state Senate Appropriations Subcommittee on General Government.

“Without getting too far into depth, we believe there was a significant financial fraud that drove this,” Arena says, adding that the alleged scheme benefited unnamed people. "Greed drove this."

To date, the probe has resulted in criminal charges against 15 local and state officials. Four people have pleaded guilty.
