A good dose of tough love should be Gov. Rick Snyder's holiday present to the city of Detroit, writes Nolan Finley in the Detroit News.
Once again, Detroit faces a crisis point. It will very likely run out of cash sometime in December, raising the possibility of payless paydays and even more unpaid vendors.
Snyder is sitting on $80 million in bond revenue that was supposed to pay for the city's restructuring under its consent agreement with the state.
That pile was once $135 million, but Detroit has drawn down money to pay its operating costs because tax receipts aren't matching spending.
Now Detroit wants Snyder to release $30 million more between now and mid-December.
He shouldn't do it.
Enough of the games.
Either the city wants to be a full participant in its financial rescue or the governor should, to quote a famous failed presidential candidate, let Detroit go bankrupt.
