The University of Michigan is accused on an editorial page today of being "an in-kind contributor to the Democratic Party and the re-election campaign of President Barack Obama."
The slam comes from Nolan Finley, editorial page editor of The Detroit News, who cites a Monday conference titled "The Republican War on Women?" -- a premise Finley calls "malarkey." It's sponsored by the Communications Studies Department.
The panelist line-up indicates the question has already been answered. . . .
Not included is a single voice that might offer a dissenting view to the question the title poses. So no surprise — one of the nation's most liberal campuses invites a trio of arch-feminists to demonize Republicans. . . .
Liberal bias on university campuses is nothing new, and is to be expected, given that three-quarters of college professors identify as liberals. But the money taxpayers send to universities shouldn't be used to boost a partisan political campaign. . . .
Perhaps Monday's session should open the door to an investigation of its nonprofit status."
