Now comes the fallout.
Consumers Energy has fired an undisclosed number of employees for “failure to follow established policies and procedures” in the aftermath of the Royal Oak gas explosion Feb. 27 that killed 58-year-old Daniel Malczynski and damaged more than 30 homes, the Detroit Free Press reports.
“We take our responsibilities to protect our communities, customers and employees very seriously and we are committed to a zero tolerance policy when it comes to their safety,” Consumers says in a statement. "We have been conducting a thorough investigation, including employee interviews, system inspection and policy review. Based on our findings to date, we have taken appropriate disciplinary action, including terminations."
