Five Kmart stores in Southeast Michigan, including two in Oakland County, will close in early December, resulting in a loss of more than 600 jobs, WDIV reports.
The station reports that liquidation sales at those stores will begin on Sunday.
"Store closures are part of a series of actions we’re taking to reduce on-going expenses, adjust our asset base, and accelerate the transformation of our business model," said Sears Holdings spokesman Howard Riefs in a statement, according to WDIV.
The store closings include Burton (85 employees) and Flint (81 employees) in Genesee County; Madison Heights (179 employees) and Rochester (77 employees) and Port Huron (188 employees).
Besides those five stores, the Detroit Kmart on Telegraph Road, just south of 8 Mile Road, and the one in Southgate on Fort Street, will close in October. Those closures were announced earlier this year, WDIV reports.
