Detroit Police shot a 24-year-old man on the city's west side on Monday night, WXYZ reports. The man is in critical condition. 

The shootout occurred on Asbury Park, near 8 Mile between Southfield Freeway and Lodge.

While patrolling around 10 p.m., an officer noticed a group of people and saw that one had a weapon, police say. When officers tried to question him, he reportedly ran off and fired shots.

Officers also fired.
