Sure reporters were interested Thursday in Ford's healthy 3rd quarter profits of $1.27 billion -- the 17th straight quarter it has posted a profit.

But there was also a rumor that caught reporters' interest during a conference call on the automaker's  earnings: They wanted CEO Alan Mulally to comment on rumors that he had spoken to Microsoft and might become the next CEO.

Mulally wasn't having any of it.

According to Free Press reporter Alisa Priddle, Mulally dodged the question, saying:

“We have no change to our plan and I love serving Ford and we don’t comment on speculation."  He said he plans to stay with the company through 2014. -- A.L.
