A former Central Michigan University journalism instructor, Mark Ranzenberger, mistakenly displayed child pornographic images on his computer to a class, according to The Detroit News.
Ranzenberger was charged Thursday in federal court with possessing 1,000 images of child porn and possessing pornography involving a minor under 12.
A federal complaint quotes him telling investigators that he thought “he had gotten rid of all that stuff.”
Two months ago, he quit his job at CMU and his position on the Mount Pleasant Planning Commission, The News reports:
According to the complaint, that month a CMU student had reported to the school’s Faculty Personnel Services that Ranzenberger accessed files from a Dropbox account that “appeared to be thumbnails of pornographic images, which were seen by the entire class.”
On Rate My Professor, he gets mixed reviews. One student posts:
Awesome prof. Talks a lot in the beginning of class but I didn't mind at all. He lets you do re-writes on all of the assignments which is awesome (original assignment and re-write are two separate grades though). Overall not that hard of a class. I learned a lot about different styles of writing. Extremely recommend this class.

As someone who likes clarity, this class was very frustrating for me. Professor Ranzenberger is a nice guy, but he gets off topic like crazy & doesn't explain assignments very well. He didn't put most of the assignments in the grade book until the end of the semester so it was hard to predict a final grade. Hopefully the class gets more organized.
