Retired Detroit Lions running back Mel Farr, who spent his entire NFL career with the Lions, and later went on to open Mel Farr Ford, died Monday night, Fox 2 reports. He was 70.

Farr played for the Lions from 1967-73 and twice went to the Pro Bowl.  He was also named offensive Rookie of the Year.

In 1975, he opened Mel Farr Ford at !0 Mile and Greenfield. Later, the Mel Farr Auto Group became the most successful black business in America. He memorably starred in his commercials as "Mel Farr Superstar," wearing a cape.
