The Lions need what Matt Millen got: a new heart.
Millen, the former president and chief executive officer of the Detroit Lions, has received a heart transplant for Christmas.
Millen, 60, a Super Bowl winning player and TV commentator, underwent surgery Sunday at Newark Beth Israel Hospital to undergo surgery, reports Peter King of NBC Sports.
Millen waited for months for a match. He has a rare disease that attacks the lining of the heart, was told Sunday afternoon that a match had been found.
Millen’s wife Pat tells NBC: “Doctors said the heart was a perfect match and he is doing well. The surgery went smoothly.”
Millen was with the Lions general manager for seven years, and his tenure was generally regarded as disastrous. He was fired shortly after the 2008 season began.
