Former Shelby Township priest Neil Kalina faces prison time after being convicted of sex abuse.

A Macomb County Circuit Court jury convicted him Friday of two counts of second-degree criminal sexual conduct, each carrying a 15-year maximum prison term. Sentencing is July 26.

“This conviction marks the sixth one secured by my clergy abuse team,” said Attorney General Dana Nessel in a release. “It’s also a reminder of our ongoing commitment to this investigation and the survivors in these cases."

Kalina, who was a priest at St. Kiernan Catholic Church in Shelby Township from 1982-85,  was first charged in May 2019 and arrested in Littlerock, Calif. The charges involved allegations that he allegedly fondled a 14-year-old boy at St. Kieran in 1984 after giving him  alcohol and drugs.
