No surprise this mailing came from Gov. Gretchen Whitmer's media people, but when you have good news about the boss, you should spread it: A new Fox News poll, taken after the demonstration in Lansing last week, found a strong majority approve of her work.

Sixty-three percent of those polled (801 Michigan voters, with a 3.5-point margin of error) approved of the job she's doing as governor, 64 percent approved of her handling of the coronavirus crisis and 58 percent had a favorable opinion of her overall.

What's more, 49 percent said they'd vote for a theoretical Biden/Whitmer presidential ticket over a Trump/Pence ticket, which pulled 43 percent. Nine percent said they'd vote for someone else, wouldn't vote at all, or were undecided.

Democratic Senator Gary Peters is outpolling challenger John James by 10 points, 46 to 36 percent, with 17 percent in the other/no vote/undecided category.

Asked whether the economy should be reopened faster (even if the health crisis lasts longer) or slower (even if the economic crisis lasts longer), respondents strongly favored going slow, with 61 percent in favor. Only 24 percent favored a fast reopening.

The overall sample size was slighly skewed toward self-identified Democrats (44 percent) over Republicans (41 percent), with 16 percent calling themselves independent or other.
