Multiple-time Detroit mayoral candidate Tom Barrow plans to make his fourth run at the office and will kick off his bid at a campaign event Thursday night on the city’s east side, Matt Helms reports in the Free Press.
Barrow said Wednesday that he is conducting a methodical, deliberate campaign, gathering support and not seeking the limelight until today, when he plans to turn in nominating signatures to the City Clerk’s Office be put on the August ballot. He will formally enter the race this evening.
Barrow, 64, is an accountant and lifelong Detroiter. He ran against Coleman Young and lost in 1985 and 1989. In 2009, he came in second in a primary election against now-Mayor Dave Bing, but lost in the general election by about 20,000 votes, a result he unsuccessfully challenged.
