The Detroit Free Press Marathon has traditionally been a festive event marked by personal achievements.

But there was some tragedy Sunday when a 57-year-old-man collapsed and died in the fifth mile during a stretch in Canada in the 26.2-mile race, the Freep reports. The race starts in Detroit and crosses over the Ambassador Bridge into Windsor before finishing in Detroit.

The man was taken to Windsor Regional Hospital Ouellette Campus and was later pronounced dead.

His name was not immediately released.
