Peter Bhatia, the editor of the Cincinnati Enquirer, is the Detroit Free Press' new editor, the paper announces.

Bhatia also has been regional editor for the USA TODAY Network andf was top editor of The Oregonian newspaper in Portland from 2010-14. Before becoming the Enquirer editor for the two years, he directed a business journalism center at Arizona State University.

"It is a tremendous honor to come to the Free Press, to work and live in this remarkable city, and to work with such a talented group of journalists," Bhatia says according to the Freep.

"The Free Press tradition is one of great investigative journalism that has time and time again received applause from across the country. I will do all I can to continue that work."

He replaces Free Press executive editor Robert Huschka, who abruptly resigned in July, reportedly at his bosses' request, after nearly two years in the newsroom's top role.

The Cincinnati Enquirer is a Gannett-owned paper, as is the Free Press.
