The city of Detroit is cracking down on customers that owe the public lighting bills and is shutting off electrical service to some buildings.
Matt Helms of the Detroit Free Press reports that there are some major public lighting customers the city has it's sights on including Wayne State University and the Detroit Medical Center, each of which the city says owes millions in back bills.
Helms discovered the those bills from documents obtained by the Free Press through a Freedom of Information Act request.
Helms wrote:

That surcharge, a WSU official said, nearly doubled the university’s monthly electric bill.
