Kwame Kilpatrick's son, Jalil Kilpatrick, posted a photo of his father in a prison uniform June 8 on Twitter that is the first view of the disgraced former mayor since he began serving his 28-year prison sentence for corruption.
Kilpatrick appears thinner than during his days in public office and, most noticeably, his black goatee features a clump of white hair, Robert Snell notes in the Detroit News.
Kilpatrick, 44, is incarcerated at a medium-security federal prison in El Reno, Okla. His release date is Aug. 1, 2037. He served as mayor from January 2002 to September 2008.
Jalil tweeted the photo to wish his father a happy birthday. It carried the hashtag #FreeKMK.
