Sven-Erik Mattsson and Kenneth Rooslund are Swedish car lovers who shipped a '68 Chevrolet Corvette across the Atlantic for a once-in-a-lifetime chance to participate in the Woodward Dream Cruise on Saturday.
"It's the biggest dream in the world to drive your own car on Woodward Avenue," Mattsson told Free Press auto writer Mark Phelan. "I spent four years and 2,000 hours working on the car. I couldn't have imagined I'd ever get to drive it on Woodward."
Mattsson is a member of a Swedish Corvette Club -- with 2,400 members -- through which he became aware of Woodward Avenue.
Here's how you get a '68 Vette from Sweden to Royal Oak: You build a trailer for the car, put it on a container ship in Goteborg, meet it in Newark on Monday, rent a pickup and drive several hundred miles to Detroit.
