The 1,200-student hackathon underway downtown on Woodward at the Chase building (aka The Qube) and the former Federal Reserve Building nearby is an exhausting regimen of developing apps on the fly, attending discussions and exploring internship or job opportunities.
All that comes after long-distance travel for most participants, perhaps across time zones.
The intense, nearly nonstop MHacks event is "where innovation meets sleep deprivation," as UM student photographer Adam Glanzman tweets Saturday from the scene. Two of his shots are in our Sleepless in Detroit gallery of Twitter photos.
Teams are competing for about $1,200 in awards to be presented Sunday afternoon, when fatigue pays off for winners. And for everyone else, Monday's holiday brings a recovery day off from classes.
