Although Prince is well-known for his song "Purple Rain," there wasn't a single drop of any kind during Campus Martius Park's tribute to the singer and producer, who died on April 21 at age 57.

A crowd gathered on the plaza from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. to listen to musicians perform onstage and view the collection of Prince memorabilia. Some in attendance even sported purple clothing to honor the singer, who was often called "The Purple One."

Khalid el-Hakin, founder of the Black History 101 Mobile Museum, set up a cluster of purple tablecloth-covered tables displaying a collection of magazines, records and buttons featuring Prince. To celebrate Black Music Month, which is in June, he also included memorabilia from singer Michael Jackson and boxer Muhammad Ali, who died last Friday.

"I listened to a lot of the conversations that the artifacts sparked about Prince and his music," el-Hakin said. "A diverse group of people came together to enjoy it."
