The Shinola Hotel opened for a media walk-through this week, showing off the eight-story, 130-room building's public spaces and guest rooms. Rates are $195 to $485.

It opens Jan. 2, in time for that month's North American International Auto Show visitors. A ground-floor Italian restaurant, San Morello, opened Tuesday evening.
