The price for a gallon of gas has hit 99 cents at a Highland Park station as oil prices plummet due to reduced demand amid the coronavirus pandemic.

The average price for a gallon of unleaded in Michigan was $1.46 Monday, according to AAA. That number may drop even more after U.S. oil prices closed in negative territory Monday.

The plunge is the result of a lack of space to stockpile inventories, the New York Times reports. The U.S. and world's top oil producing countries have struck a deal to limit supply, but it won't take effect until May.

The cheap gas can be found at 12803 Hamilton Ave.
