The good news is the there's real movement afoot in Lansing to fix our messed up roads. The bad news: We're going to be paying for it at the gas pump.
WDIV reports that the Michigan Senate voted Thursday to double the state gasoline tax over four years to raise at least $1 billion to fix roads. The measure now goes before the state House.
The station reports that the gas tax per gallon is a flat 19 cent.
The bill would tax the wholesale price of fuel. The gas tax would effectively rise to 25 cents in April, 31 cents in 2016, 36 cents in 2017 and 41 cents in 2018 based on current prices, WDIV reported.
