Time to get naked for a good cause.

An Ann Arbor photographer is holding a “Save the Russell, Detroit Nude shoot!” at 1-3 p.m. Saturday at the site on Clay Street, the Detroit Free Press reports.

Participants, as well as non-participants, will be asked to donate money to help the center upgrade and meet codes to continue operating. The city temporarily shut it down, but earlier this month the center got a reprieve, allowing tenants to stay while improvements are made.

Photographer Thomas Ulch II, 46, of Ann Arbor, who once had a space at the center, is conducting the shoot.

"They've always been very helpful — they are very pro-art," tells Robert Allen of the Freep.  "I was trying to think of a way I could help them out."

More details are posted on Facebook:

If you follow the Detroit arts scene at all, you know that the city has shut down the Russell due to it not being up to code. The Russell fills a vital role in the community allowing short term leases at affordable rates. They have always been great to me. Allowing me to shoot on the roof and property, even before I had a studio there. My goal with this shoot is to help SAVE THE RUSSELL.

*edit due to LOTS of privacy concerns. There will only be ONE photographer with the images. The release form you sign will be for ONE photographer. So togs, leave your rig at home, but bring lots of business cards!

This will be a group, nude shoot that will also be a part of my Detroit Nude-Thomas Ulch Photography project that Eric and the rest of the peeps at the Russell have helped. This shoot is not open to other photographers due to privacy issues. But it will be a great chance to network!

We will meet at 1pm, where participants will sign release forms and stuff. We ill shoot at 2pm and be done very soon after that. So DON'T BE LATE! We ask that each person donate a few bucks towards getting the Russell up to code to allow the residents there to continue working until they do so.

This shoot is open to men, women and is TOTALLY LGBTQ friendly. As we are shooting nudes, we do ask that you leave the kids at home. I know, I know, there is nothing "bad" about nudity, but we don't want drama with law enforcement.

This is meant to be a positive event for all involved. Leave your shittiness at home.
