During the nine days since Gil Hill's death at 84 in a Detroit hospital, 16 tributes have been posted at a Swanson Funeral Home guest book.
These are among messages from acquaintances and strangers about the iconic figure who straddles law enforcement, politics and acting:

A funeral for former Detroit Council President Gil Hill and ex-homicide investigator, who gained international fame for film roles as a tough-talking cop, is set for Saturday, March 12.
The noon service will be at St. Phillips Lutheran Church, 2884 East Grand Blvd.
Public viewing at Swanson Funeral Home, 14751 W. McNichols Rd., is Thursday, March 10, from noon to 8 p.m., and Friday, March 11, from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m.
Family hour will be held at the St Phillips Lutheran Church at 11 a.m. Saturday, March 12, right before the funeral.
Interment will be at Detroit's Trinity Cemetery, 5210 Mt Elliott St.
Gilbert Roland Hill, 84, died Feb. 29 at DMC Sinai Grace Hospital in northwest Detroit where he had been admitted for pneumonia on Feb. 17. Hill had been in a nursing home where he was battling a lung condition known as COPD (chronic obstructive pulmonary disease).
