Dan Gilbert's insatiable appetite for Detroit property continues.
The latest: A Gilbert team is working quietly on a deal for one of the most perplexing and environmentally challenging Detroit sites available for redevelopment in Detroit, writes Kirk Pinho of Crain's Detroit Business
The focus is the 43-acre site of a former Uniroyal Tire Co. factory on the east riverfront, now owned by the city. Pinho's scoop says:
Five sources familiar with the negotiations, who were not allowed to speak publicly about them, confirmed the discussions to Crain's. A sixth, Steve Hoin, senior geologist with the Michigan Department of Environmental Quality, said he met with Gilbert representatives this spring to discuss the site.
"The discussion focused on site issues that might impede development and their interest in that issue," Hoin said.
